Game On!: Esports is sweeping the nation and Ct high schools are the latest groups to join in

Four years ago, Manchester High School teacher Sam Warner could never have imagined he’d be coaching the group of students that he does in a competitive sport.

The seniors he once had in freshmen biology were reclusive, quiet and lacked confidence in the classroom. They didn’t fit the bill of a high school athlete at the time, he said.
Now, they’re competing for a state championship in a competitive arena that is growing fast around the state and country.

Warner is the adviser of an esports team at Manchester High, one of 13 teams in Connecticut this year attempting to become state champions in competitive video gaming.
